Vista and XP Pro networking...

Hey guys I have serched all over and cannot find a fix to this. First off my vista boxes talk to each other no problem. I would however like to remove the passwords so they just connect and no issues. But most importantly I have an xp machine that is on the same workgroup and they cannot talk to each other. Any suggestions?

Re: Vista and XP Pro networking...

Too bad, no suggestions. I have the same problem with all of my boxes except one. I've been all over the web and it seems like this is a common problem with no good solutions.

I have a mixed bag of computers running XP and 2000. The computer I need to acess the most is a VAIO running XP pro, from my new VAIO running Vista Business. Sometimes they recognize each other, sometimes not, and in any event I can't open any files from either machine to the other. I've done the usual, turned off AV, Firewalls, etc. with no joy.

Interestingly, I have a single XP Pro machine that I can access no problem. I need suggestions, too!

About the XP and Vista, can you ping the XP machine from the Vista one by IP and name?

Re: Vista and XP Pro networking...

Ok, couple of things:

1. How are the computers connected?
2. On your Vista box, what is the 'network location type' (ie. domain, public or private)?
3. What are the settings for your sharing and discovery?
4. Do you have any third party firewalls running on the computers?
