Another movie maker problem
Hello,
I'm having a couple of problems with my Windows Movie Maker... The first one is to do with lagging. I have two mpg files, one is 2.6gb, the other one is 913mb. They're fine if I just open them in movie maker and play them in the preview pane, but as soon as I try to do anything with them, like skip ahead, or pause even it stops playing. No sound or anything. I have tried converting them to avi, but it hasn't helped. My computer in only 2 months old, and has plenty of space. The other problem is I have an avi clip which works fine when played on the computer, I tried to put it on a DVD and play it on my DVD player, but the picture has been pushed to the top of the screen, and the bottom of the screen is all green. I tried editing it on movie maker, but it didn't work, it still has the same problem, I've tried changing how it's published to the computer and then burning it, but still same problem. The thing that confuses me with it, is if I watch the original avi on the computer it plays fine, it's only when I try and burn it that there's a problem. If I've missed any info that might be helpful let me know. Thanks. |

Re: Another movie maker problem
Hi Bec
Can you post your system specs, ram, cpu etc. It sounds to me that you have insufficient RAM. The second problem, i am not sure about but are you sure you are using the correct format for your DVD player (e.g. PAL, or NTSC)? Hopefully others will give you better advise./

Re: Another movie maker problem
Hi Bec
A 2.6GB file plus a further 960 odd MB file is massive for a machine to 'render' in windows movie maker, and I think you will find you have insufficient RAM for such a process. You can verify this by either downloading the gadget that monitors your ram and cpu here http://gallery.live.com/liveItemDeta...5-157bd66ca5af or by CTRL / ALT / DEL and view the same information in the task manager. So load up your files in Movie maker and check out the RAM usage. I would expect you are suffereing from insufficient RAM thus the poor playback. Rmember, using Vista will hover at close to 1GB doing nothing, which is not a problem normally, but will be if you start wanting to do video editing. I use Adobe Premiere Pro and even with 3GB it ocassionally complains about insufficient memory. The solution maybe to convert these files to another file, however my knowledge in this area is limited.

Re: Another movie maker problem
When I watch my CPU & RAM moniter while trying to play one of these files in movie maker it doesn't seem to change much from when I press play and when it's not playing, and when it freezes there still doesn't seem to be much movement.
Is there a way to split the file in two before importing it into movie maker? Any thoughts on what could be causing the other "green" problem? |
