IE/firefox problems with Vista

Ok, so this all began when the newest firefox version was released over a month ago. My firefox stopped connecting. I assumed it was a firewall or something to that matter, and I turned the windows one off and it solved nothing, as well as making sure it was not being blocked by it either. Neither worked. So i resorted to IE7 for now. After about a week later, IE7 stopped connecting and saying the same thing. I did all the same crap and nothing worked. (I have reinstalled both numerous times). In the end I had to do a system restore and I put it back to before it stopped working. Firefox still didnt work but IE7 did. About a week later, again, it stopped working. So yet again I did system restore and got it going again. Same thing...and again did system restore. After the 3rd time, I noticed that windows downloads some update and restarts the comp, and then IE7 does not work. Currently it works due to system restore yesterday. Is there any suggestions on how to get firefox and IE7 working as firefox still does not and I am tired of doing system restores? I do not know how to find out what that update did or why it causes it to stop working...so any help would be great because I am beyond frustrated with this, and the last forum I was on just skipped over this and continued with other topics.

I do have Symantec Antivirus v10.2, and I do there is no firewall I could find on that program.

Thanks for any help that you can give

Re: IE/firefox problems with Vista

i think i would try switching off windows automatic updates before you do your next system restore and see will your browser keep working, then you know whats causing it! or rule that out.

Re: IE/firefox problems with Vista

Has a solution ever been found to this problem?
While I was googling, I came upon this error which is exactely the same to mine. My Firefox doesn't connect anymore, and my IE7 broke down after installing the update, but that was solved by a system restore. All the other details are the same as well, including the antivirus.

As for additional information, what would you like to know?

Thank you

Re: IE/firefox problems with Vista

I think your best solution would be just downloading a previous version of Mozilla Firefox. Obviously the newer one isn't working properly and see if that works. If not then attempt to set your computer back a few days with the recovery partition and see if that works. If IE7 works then it's not the connection, because that's working or he wouldn't be able to tell us, so i think this one is isolated in Firefox. I don't have a problem, but that's because i don't have an updated version of it and haven't seen it yet. If it still doesn't work then uninstall Firefox, re-download it, and reinstall it. if THAT doesn't work then i don't know.

God Bless and In Him,

Eric

Re: IE/firefox problems with Vista

I have tried reinstalling my old and original Firefox version, 2.0.0.7 multiple times. When I do, theres no message asking for me to update it and when I do go searching for an update using the 'check for updates' it says there was an error downloading the patch. I have also tried installing the latest version posted on the Firefox website, however, the same issue has occured; no websites load whatsoever. As for uninstalling the update, I do not know specifically which update is causing the problem. I am hoping someone out there knows which, if it is.

Thanks

Re: IE/firefox problems with Vista

Have you attempted contacting Mozilla about this problem (i don't know much about internet browsers, just windows, but i'm more than positive the home site, or at least their support system, should be able to fix the problem in a jiffy if you ask them).

God Bless and In Him,

Eric
