A mixture of Software and hardware problems

I have a comouter that is 350MHz. Recently my cdrom didn't read and used to eject any cd that is put into it. Now i opened it and i fixed it. it can read properly. I decied to reinstall windows 2000 as it was giving me alot of stop messages. When i reinstall using the same copy i had on it before it says it cannot copy some files so i press retry. If the same file appears again i press ignore. after it reaches 17% a stop message appears and asks to make sure all hardwaree and software is fine. so i check and find it's fine. I think it is a problem with jumper but i cannot prove it. can anyone help me?

My System

It's either a bad cd-rom drive, or a bad Win2k cd.

You think it is a jumper on the hard drive? If so take a look at the hard drive manufactures website to get the correct jumper settings. Western Digitals usually requre no jumper when running as master.
