Subject: DNS settings and connectionproblems
Hello,
I've a windows server 2003 standard with a active directory on it. I've configured this server at home, and it all worked. Next i took it to a club where it will had to prefrom his duties. It has to do the following there: The first network is where de clients are, behind the server. The next network is the network of the building in which the server is located, this network uses a router (without domain) and dhcp to connect to the internet. So: [clients] - [network] - [server] - [network] - [router] - [internet] The 2 network are fyscially not connected, only through the 2 networkcards in the server. So it actually has to be a network inside a network. Currently i have the following settings: A dns server, with a forwardserver with the DNS u normally get from the router. A DHCP server (the router is also dhcp server) A Active Directory server A fileserver A printserver A IIS server (sharepoint) the networkcard for the internal network for the clients IP: 10.0.0.1 etc DNS also 10.0.0.1 the netwerkcard for the external network on which the router is: IP: autoconfig, DNS 10.0.0.1 and the dns from the router. This is what is happening: as i try to ping he converts the naam to a ip adres (eg www.google.nl = 66.102.9.104) but i next thing i recieve timeouts. When i disable the networkinterface for the internal lan i can get on the internet. (with the same DNS settings) I guess the DNS works ok, since he can convert names to ip's. But something is preventing him to acctuelly connect to the internet (or he doesn't know what connection to use. I've no idea whatsoever, and disabled all firewalls. Hopefully someone can help, thanks in adavance! Ps. I've no VPN/NAT server, but i do have my connection shared.. |
