Child domain issue
Hi, I'm new to the forum.
We have a mixed domain (abc.com) consisting mostly of w2k and w2k3 servers. Our child domain xyz.abc.com) crashed and we had to configure a new server. We decided to call the new child domain pqr.abc.com and redo everyhting from scratch. I was not involved the original setup or configuration of xyz.abc.com, but was asked to setup pqr.abc.com. I installed w2k3 with SP2. Configured DNS and tested OK. pqr.abc.com would use the same DHCP as abc.com. I then ran DCPROMO and configured a new child domain in an existing domain. All went well with no errors. Trust relationships were created two way transitive by DCPROMO. The server restarted and I logged in to pqr.abc.com using administrator and I could log into abc.com using abc.com's administrator. I also made pqr.abc.com a global catalog server. Logged into pqr.abc.com I tried to add users from abc.com to pqr.abc.com under Users -> Domain Users, but i only found exchange contacts instead of any user accounts. In AD Sites and services I tried to force replication between abc.com and pqr.abc.com only to receive the following error: "Replication access was denied". If however I go to the Builtin OU on pqr.abc.com, Users, I am able to add the abc.com Domain admins or any other user or group. But this still doesn't enable me to log into pqr.abc.com with my abc.com username and password. Am I doing something wrong or where can I look for the problem ? I've searched the net high high and low to no avail. Regards, Marlin ![]() |

Re: Child domain issue
Marlin,
You said that your domain crashed? Was there only one DC in the child domain? Did you have any backups of it? Did you run meta data cleanup to remove the crashed DC from the domain? Without being able to look at the domain it would be impossible to pin point the problem due to the complexity of the network setup and not knowing complete details.. anything in event log that can be helpful on both ends ? please provide more info
