Installing Windows 2003

I am trying to install win2k3 on a server, but the error i am getting is " operating system not found". I have no clue why is this happening. Even after changing the priority to boot from cd as 1 , there is no change.
The hard disk had been changed the last week and its a proper one now. The cd drive too is detected correctly. But i end up getting the same error. Please help.

Re: Installing Windows 2003

Is it the BSOD or a DOS-looking error?

Re: Installing Windows 2003

Is the hard drive being detected in the bios? Where exactly are you getting the error. Does the CD boot to windows 2003 setup ? Or it does not boot to setup and just gives you that error.

If you are not even getting to the setup program for windows 2003 then then try another cd. Try booting from even windows xp any cd or media to see if it boots and detects the hard drive. If this is a HP or Dell server you may have a utility to test the hardware.

provide more info...

Re: Installing Windows 2003

Sounds like a bad hard drive then. Confirm it with any number of hard drive utils you can boot from a CD-ROM. If you're lucky, it's still under warranty and you can RMA it back to the manufacturer. Have fun! :)

Re: Installing Windows 2003

you may also need drivers in order for windows to even FIND the hard drives... if you have a hardware-based RAID (like Intel Matrix) then you'll need a floppy with their drivers on it (for your specific RAID controller) before you can install Windows
