Exchange 5.5 corrupt database

Hi
I have windows server NT with exchange 5.5, running on it.My problem is that the exchange databases have become corrupt. The machine is too old and slow to handle the repair apparently. So if i install server 2003 with
exchange 2003, how do i go about moving the databases from the old machine and importing them to the new server, with the intention of repairing the database to the point, if possible of exporting the repaired files to a pst or something. This kind of stuff is a little knew to me , so step by step guide would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Re: Exchange 5.5 corrupt database

I would think that you'd need to repair the data prior to migrating to a new version.

Re: Exchange 5.5 corrupt database

Is it a configuration problem or a hardware limitation preventing the maintenance or repair of the database(s)?

Re: Exchange 5.5 corrupt database

Thanks for your replies, hardware i think ,the machine just doesn't have enough power to get through the defrag, but not sure as i have just been thrown in at the deepend , trying to figure what to first, i thought about installing window nt server on a desktop , hp dx2000 but it blue screens on install , so only option left to me is to load on server 2003.

Re: Exchange 5.5 corrupt database

Move the drive with the database to a powerful machine and do a repair and conversion of the database. I am not firmiliar with Exchange but there should be built-in database repair tools... I would think there would be.
