Hello,
We got a exchange 2k3, we can send but not recieve, we checked for updates, checked firewall, everything seems fine, but cant recieve but could send. but the weird thing is when we telnet into our server x.x.x.x:25 it comes up saying "connection to x.x.x.x could not open connection to the host, on port 23: connection failed" why does it say we are trying to connect using port 23 when i specified in cmd to port 25? we checked the exchange system manager under SMTP and outbound but everything shows port 25, any help thanks? |

Re: Exchange 2k3 will send but not recieve
Port 23 is the default for telnet, you may have a typo or something in the cmd. Port 25 is SMTP which is not the issue since you are able to send. Not being able to receive can be many things: IF it is a fully functioning domain which is routable to the internet, you will need an MX record configured at your hosting provider, and on your home server. Or, IMAP may need to be started on your server. Give a little info on what kind of an environment you are in there.

Ok, it is a windows 2k3 server, using exchange 2003, we are behind a small little cisco 505 firewall, we have a T1 line by At&T, total of 4 servers, exchange server is by itself, other 3 server as multiple services on them. you said it might be IMAP, do i restart the service or what? is there anything i can check on? should i call my provider and see if they are ok on there end. I checked my DNS and yes there is an MX record for the exchange server with its IP address. please let me know if you need anything else.

Re: Exchange 2k3 will send but not recieve
Correct, restart (or start) the IMAP services on the Exchange server. Port 135 will need to be listening on the firewall as well. If those arent it, use IPmonitor, NETMON, or something similar to see what kind of packets are going through the pipe.
