Windows Home Server Storage Help!! Please
Hey i just installed WHS on my old desktop. it has a 80gb internal HD and i have a 1tb usb external HD. Both are connected with the network and show up as my total storage, but my shared folders on my server are on my internal hard drive and it says disc full when i try to copy my files to it. I cannot find a way to move the folders to the external drive for more space, and now that i have my external on the server i can't view it in my computer. I really want to have more storage for my files, but i cant get those folders onto my external

As far as i can remember .. after reading an artical about WHS you need to Import the drives into WHS in order for windows to take advantage of them ....
I think its done in a console ... Log into the Server Console then into the Storage Tab in there you will see a list of all the drives connected to the system..Including your external USB drive... You then need to add it to the server ... inorder to be able to access it .. Just highlight the drive and click add... Follow the wizzard and you should be ok ... Just a quick note . when adding drives into WHS .. it will be formatted and all data will be lost... So backup the data first... |

Blingblingg has it right. If you don't have space to copy your files out from your 1tb drive, you might need to buy a second USB drive. Add this first to your WHS storage, then copy (move) in from your existing 1tb drive to your shared folders. When your existing drive has been emptied, you can add it to the storage as well so that you can switch on duplication which adds redundancy against disk errors. If you do have enough space in your networked PCs then you can use that instead.
When creating shared folders, do it from the WHS Console rather than Win Explorer so that the share permissions get set up properly. JG |
