No graphics with 2003
I just recently switched from Windows XP to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. I have some problems, though. For one, the OS won't recognize the full 4GB of RAM that is currently installed. It just reports 3.25, when I know that this operating system supports 32GB. Second, I can't use my wireless LAN card. On XP, the card would auto-detect and I could use it within minutes, but Server 2003 won't let me. The last (and biggest) problem is that my video card drivers don't seem to install. I can install them with the disc and they work fine, but when I attempt to install the chipset drivers, I get an error reporting that no VGA drivers were found. Has anyone had this problem before, or even something similar to it? Help would be awesome.

Okay, here's an update. I've been working on the problem all day and I've fixed some things. I fixed the wireless card issue; all it needed was specific drivers. Unlike windows xp, server failed to auto-install the drivers and I had to track down the files myself. The graphics card issue was another thing I fixed. I can open games like Doom3 and Warcraft 3, but others like CS Source give me an error shortly after clicking the EXE. MY main problem, and my reason for switching to Windows Server is the amount of RAM that is available to me. With the Windows XP OS, 3.25GB was detected. After the fresh install of Server, still only 3.25 was detected. I played around with some of the remapping settings in the BIOS and was able to "unlock" all 4 gigabytes of physical memory, but my Realtek audio device would disappear. I used the Add Hardware Wizard and recognized another audio device, but it came up as an "Unknown Device." When I attempt to re-install the drivers (which should have already been installed), it gets through the file copy and then the system has a memory dump.
So, there's one to pick your brains. I have never experienced something like this, and I am confused as to why changing memory remapping settings wouls affect my audio. Does anyone have an idea, or a dumb comment that agrees with me that this is the weirdest problem ever? |
