Printing Problem
I have 8 computers and 1 hp printer and it is installed on 1 of the computer.
I am sharing this printer among everyone but i have keep the computer ON, the one its installed on to print from the other computers. I was thinking to install this printer to the server but the server is in the another room, but this printer has a network card. so there must be a way to network it without installing it to the server. |

If it has a network card, then all you need to do is plug it into the network. Next, print a status page (from the front panel of the printer). Get the IP address it has been assigned (assuming you are using DHCP).
Now, if you want to manage the queue (printing times, who can print, etc.) then at the server use the Add Printer wizard. Select local printer, then create a new port. Use the type Standard TCP/IP Port. Give it the IP address of the printer, accept all other settings as is, and load the drivers. Share it out, and then go to each client and connect to the share printer. If you don't care about management, then use the server process on each client (provided they are Win2k or XP), but don't shre it out. |
