Looking for Sharepoint Portal Server help

While I have been doing minimal adminning of Windows Sharepoint Services sites for our company we are now upgrading to Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. I've ran into some errors/problems I am trying to resolve though Google, MS KB/Technet and forums.

Server running Windows Standard Server 2003
Windows Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS)
SQL Server 2000
IIS 6

I installed SPS and choose not to install WMDE (SQL Desktop Engine) since this server already had an installation running of SQL Server 2000.

I am using the same login account on all aspects of this..SQL, SPS, Win2003.

It installed but for some reason seems to think it's a "server farm" installation and I have a list (SPS provided) of issues that need to be resolved.

Critical Issues:

1) No job server has been specified.
- It will not let me make a local one but tells me instead to go to the remote machine and do it, even though only the server it's all installed on is specified anywhere.

2) The search component is not running anywhere. The portal sites will not be able to be searched.

3) The index component is not running anywhere. Searh results may become out of date.

4) front end web server is not running anywhere. No usersw wil be able to access sites.

5) Current topology is not supported.

Warnings:

6) No default global e-mail settings have been specified.
- not concerned about this as we aren't going to be utilizing this aspect of the SPS server.

TIA

I will be Googling and search MS KB/Technet but haven't really found anything to this point.
