Windows XP Pro cannot ping 98 machines, Event ID 8003 in System
Ok here is our setup:
Windows Server 2003 Several XP Pro machines Few 98 and few 2000 machines All on a domain One laptop running XP Pro running through a wireless connection The laptop can ping all of the machines including the server but cannot ping any of the machines running Windows 98. Also, I have a printer that is shared on a 98 machine and this laptop cannot connect to it (because it cannot see the machine). All other machines can ping all machines except the laptop. No workstation or server can ping the laptop. The laptop however has full access to the shares and everything except those are on the 98 machines. We have been getting the following Event ID in Event Viewer for the server: Event ID 8003. Source MRxSmb The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer TOUCHDOWN (this is the laptops computer name) that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{8EEA2806-9965-4FF3. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced. My guess is that this is my problem however I have no clue what this means or how to fix the problem. Could you help me out? Thanks guys! |

Just a follow up. I had the laptop upgrade to SP2 overnight and when I came in this morning I was able to see the 98 machines, connect to the shared printer and the Event ID was not on the server's Event Viewer. I am assuming this solved the problem. We will see though. All seems fine as of now.
