server getting too big

I have a Windows 2000 server with 4 gig allocated for SQL Server. When SQL Server was first installed, there was 1.5 gigabytes of free space. Now, 1 year later, there is only 400 mb of free space left. The server is only being used for SQL Server, and all the databases are on a separate drive. At first, I thought the problem might be the log files. But it doesn't seem like the log files could possibly be taking up that much space.

The two folders that take up the most space are winnt/system32 and winnt/softwaredistribution.

Please help.

Download treesize. It will tell you the size of each folder in your explorer tree.

Are you running IIS along with SQL. The log files for IIS can get substaintually big. If you are, you might want redirect it to another drive.

I've seen gigs of log files build up before. I'd take a look at them first. And if that fails then you will probably want to move the DB file and redirect SQL. If you'd like to learn more about SQL and Storage managment you can check out CA World here www.ca.com/caworld
