Hard drive shown as full

This is a windows 2003 server DC. When I select all the folders in the C drive and go to properties, the size are about 5GB. However, in Windows Explorer the C drive is listed as 18GB full. Can anyone tell me why? How do I recover those memory space back?

Click "Properties" on the C partition (not all the folders). The free space (not memory) listed there is what you have left.

Thank you for the response. Okay, explain to me why selecting all the folders and go to properties to display the size isn't giving me the correct number?

I don't have an answer for that. I just know you judge drive space at the partition level and not the folder level.

There are hidden folders that also take up space that isn't accounted for.
I.E. system restore, temp files, partition information, recycle bin, etc.

Remember that file indexing also increases the size of the file on disk. This probably doesn't amount for the 13 g missing, but could account for some of it.
