2003 server: New Domain Controller Installation

i've just added a new domain controller to an existing domain in order to replace the current domain controller. do i need to configure this new domain controller in any way to make it the main/primary domain controller or will that just occur anyway once i take the current one offline?

thanks for your help

Hi nvisibl,

Will you be transferring all operations master roles (FSMO) to the main DC or you are doing a fresh configuration of your new DC?

This link will help you a lot=> http://www.visualwin.com/AD-Controller/

You may do a dcpromo, demote the previous DC then do another dcpromo and promote again if you are planning to use this as a Backup DC which I recommend, or it can be a member DC.
