How to protect windows 2003 server?

Hi frnds

In my office we r using linux for web server. but we have lot of application compatibility issues in that. so i want to change to windows 2003. But windows is less security than linux. so what r u precautions and implementations we have to do in windows 2003 server..

please reply me

there are more attacks on windows then Linux, it's very easy to secure a windows environment. The issue is there are few attacks on Linux because it's a sepeclised OS.

Here are some helpful ideas and reasonable too:

I suggests to use an excellent hardware firewall. Sonicwall is an inexpensive firewall, reasonable. In addition to this you may buy their comprehensive Gateway Security Suite that includes Anti-virus/Spyware removal software/24-7 Tech support. You may check out their solutions => http://www.sonicwall.com/us/products/solutions/81.html .

In addition to this, you may check this out McAfee's Endpoint Security or TOPS (you may just have this installed in your servers for more protection), very reasonable too=> http://www.mcafee.com/us/medium/solutions/index.html.

I would also suggests to have WSUS configured in one of your DC's so that windows updates will run auto on all client PC's.

by making changes in default settings we can make windows server 2003 more secure. to do this we have two methods
1 by GUI
2 through command line
