Re: Add New domain Controller

Hi jwc1972,

yes, you will run dcpromo to have this server setup as a DC, will this be a backup DC or the main DC? what type of server do you have? 2003 or 2007? As for VPN, do you need this setup as a VPN server or connect to a VPN server in another office? I'm a bit confused with what you're trying to do.

Re: Add New domain Controller

Whe you said "nt backup the system state reboot the server in directory mode". Were you trying to restore your Sys State backup using the NT Backup? and it is unsuccessful. Re-building your AD can be complicate and 100% you'll come across with issues. If you are restoring the System State data to a domain controller, you must choose whether you want to perform a primary restore, an authoritative restore or a nonauthoritative restore.

Re: Add New domain Controller

If you are going to start fresh which is good, use dcpromo and configure all needed server roles for this server.
