Server 2000 backup problem
This is a small office with Server 2000 and was set up to backup to a external cd drive. I'm the best thing they have to a computer tech here so I usually am the one to fix things. This I can't figure out. The back up was working in the past (not for some time now though, I just happened to look at one of the cd's). At first I could not see the drive at all and the device manager said there was something wrong with it. I tried updating the drivers and that made no difference. I unplugged the drive, plugged in back in and now can see it. I tried to do a manual backup but it said that I did not have access to the device or the device was not valid. I am logged in as administrator and can look at the contents of the cd in My Computer. I am using the backup utility that came with Server 2000. What do you think?

Re: Server 2000 backup problem
Hi smhatton... you may try plugging this external CD drive to another computer and see if it will detect it. This is the only way that you'll find out if the issue is the external device itself.
