SBS2003 remote desktop being kicked off

I have a customer who allows remote desktop connections to their SBS2003 Server. They know only 2 connections are possible at a time and are aware of the potential security risk.

It appears if 2 remote connections are already active if a 3rd connection is attempted one of the other ones will be kicked off. I thought the default setting would be to ignore the attempted 3rd connection.

Can anyone tell me what the default condition should be and if it is to kick an already active connection how to stop it.

Thanks

Re: SBS2003 remote desktop being kicked off

Hi and welcome to TSF!

Are they using Terminal Server or VPN connection?
for Terminal Server the reasons that a 3rd connection will be kicked off is if you do not have enough licenses (CALS) installed or you are only allowing 2 connections at a time and thise can be modified at the Terminal Server Manager and AD Users and computers of you are using a DC.

Re: SBS2003 remote desktop being kicked off

They are using the SBS2003 hobbled version of terminal server that only allows a max of 2 remote connections (in support mode only). Because it is primarily for "support" access no CAL's are needed as far as I know.
