Server 2003 and RAID 5 setup

I just purchased a new server and I have some questions about setting it up. I will be running windows server 2003 and will have 4 250gb sata hd. i have read that the os needs to be installed not on the raid. so what would be the best way to do this.

2nd question: If I setup the os on 1 hd and the raid on the other 3 how would i store my data from mysql on the raid drives.

Re: Server 2003 and RAID 5 setup

buy a hardware raid controller and make a raid 5 array. Adaptec/LSI/dell has some inexpensive ones, if this is personal use check ebay for a Perc 6i.

I love Dell Perc5i/6i controllers ... dirt cheap but great.

If you do it in software it will suck. In this setup your OS will have no raid ... kinda defeats the idea of having raid.
