User having problems connecting to a network share (bad local domain account?)
Problem description: I'm the new IT guy at a company using AIMS EDI software. The previous admin had users all logging into as Administrators but changed this right before he left. As a result, I had to grant permissions to users to access the share on which the software and data are stored. Most of this has gone on without a hitch but one user is still unable to access the share. When she attemptes to she is given the message that the share is not accessible and that she might not have permssions.
Attempted fixes: I've looked at the groups that sucessful users are members of and added the problem user to those groups to no avail. I've tried adding acess to the share to the Everyone category of users as well. Again, no effect. Recent changes: Users were previously logging in using admin accounts and passwords saved to their machines. The outgoing IT guy here changed the admin password in an attempt to make things more secure, and now users are connecting using their own accounts. Operating system: Server the share is on - Windows Server 2003 User's machine - XP Logged onto the user machine as another user and was able to access the share, so its definitely the user account and not something to do with the configuration of the machine. Should I try rebuilding the users account ? |

Re: User having problems connecting to a network share (bad local domain account?)
Just remember that permissions will use the most permissive unless it's no access, then the no access trumps the others. For example, she's a member of USERS that has full control, and EVERYONE that has read and write, but her individual name has NO access at all. Then she won't have any access. Check the share permissions on the share itself as well as any shares above that in case more restrictive permissions are being inherited.
