OS: xp sp2, server 2003 standard edition


domain user cannot access the internet

Hi IT guys,

I just want to ask if you already encountered this problem, one user was logged on to the domain but he doesnt have internet. I tried logging on as domain administrator on the same pc, and i can access the internet.

using server 2003
windows xp sp2 client

You might want to check your GPO for this User's OU and see if this User is restricted to access the web.

Please define "can't access the Internet" , do you mean
  • he can't get websites in his browser
  • he can't resolve things (try "ping www.google.com" from the command line)
  • he can't get traffic out through your default gateway (try "tracert www.google.com" at the command line.)
  • check the IE proxy settings too - tools > internet options > connections > lan settings. most people have all unticked.

2xgrump : thanks for the welcome :-) all the users can access the internet at GPO.


dweeb: he can resolve things.. i can ping websites.. i tried other browsers still wont work..

now temporarily i deleted the user profile on server.. and it works.. he can use email using exchange server and can browse the internet..

hi sorry my mistake..

i can ping websites..

i cannot browse the internet and i cannot connect microsoft outlook to exchange server

I would create a new User then in AD Users and Computers, this User might have a corrupt profile. Then logon as a new User in the problem computer and see what happens.
