A record access issue on win2003 & IE8

Hi
I am trying to learn sharepoint at the moment so i have installed windows 2003 R2 & sharepoint 2007.

One of the things in the tutorial is to create an Alternate access mapping for a URL and it needs to add an A record for it.

So initially DNS entry had 10.0.01 for sp.homenetwork.com and i added a new A record there for Intranet. So now it also has entry for intranet.homenetwork.com pointing to ip 10.0.0.1

With IE6 installed, when i type in http://intranet , it correctly transfers me to http://testportal:80 (Default sharepoint site).

But now i have installed IE8 and since than it keeps on asking me for a username & password when i try to access http://intranet. Even when i enter administrator password, it just wont work.

I can correctly ping intranet & its seems to be working but i just cant access it using IE8.

Can anyone help me solve this issue?

Thanks
SD
