Exchange RPC Connection
hi there
i am having some issues with RPC on SBS 2003. i know that rpc is supposed to be installed with exchange i sbs2003 however whenever i try to connect a mail client via RPC it just says that the server is unavalible. i followed a guide on the petri forums, and it seemed that RPC was installed however is just not letting me connect to it. i have tested it on a vareity of machined, both internal, external, windows, mac on the domain and off the domain and every time i jsut get the connection to the server failed or the exchange server you requested cannot be found. does anyone have any ideas how to overcome this issue?? thanks murray |

Re: Exchange RPC Connection
Where is your TS (terminal server) residing? in SBS 2003? are you trying to remote access this server from a client computer?

Re: Exchange RPC Connection
Terminal services resides on a different server however this shouldn't affect it as the two issues are separate, and terminal services uses different ports to exchange rpc
Thanks, Murray |

Re: Exchange RPC Connection
does anyone have any ideas??
i was just looking through exchange and in exchange manager under servers our server is listed and it says RPC-HTTP not enabled. when i go into the properties for the exchange server and the RPC-HTTP tab it will not let me make it a RPC-HTTP Front End Server as the radiobox is greyed out does anyone have any more ideas?? Thanks Murray |

Re: Exchange RPC Connection
Just so you know, the normal way you connect to exchange is considered "RPC" mapi.
rpc over http is not enabled by default ... you have to jump though hoops to get it setup on a single server. It really should only be done in a frontend/backend setup. |

Re: Exchange RPC Connection
cheers bilbus
all of the tutorials i have read said that is was installed and ready to go with SBS, is that incorrect?? alternatively i am looking to use imap, although i beleive that that does not sync calendars and tasks etc. the main reason i want it is because a few staff at one of my clients want to have a mobile device that has their email and calendars on a mobile device. do you have any other suggestions of how i can do it?? |

Re: Exchange RPC Connection
Just a thought for you chemical afinity, we use Blackberry Server in our Exchange to have our Outlook sync to all our Blackberry phones, also we use SBS. We do have minor issue with BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) once in a while but it's not too bad to troubleshoot and resolve these issues. Again..just a thought.

Re: Exchange RPC Connection
Yes, you are correct. I have some docs comparing RIM(Research in Motion or BES) vs Microsoft's Activesync.
If you already have PDA's just like you said I would go with the Activesync, note that this works well with Exchange 2007, it has a lot more added features. Pls. check it out and let me know. Pls. see attached file in pdf.
