Re: Domain Error: PLEASE HELP!!!!!
unfortunately you'll have to demote then promote your DC to change your domain name by using this command "dcpromo" so i won't be an easy one.

Re: Domain Error: PLEASE HELP!!!!!
oh yeah...you're right, but not on the Win2000server, has to be Win2003 and above. I found this link from Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290396. Is this the right one Bilbus?

Re: Domain Error: PLEASE HELP!!!!!
well, you can rename a domain, but it's a bad idea .. and ya it's only on 2003 in 2003 mode. (cant do it in mixed or even 2000 native)
But really his issue is that his clients are going to the intenet to look up ath.cx, when they should be using his local server. My domain is the same way, i have a split dns model also. |

Re: Domain Error: PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Hello,
I haven't renamed it, and if you don't think it'll work ... I won't. I have two local IP's for the AD and DNS Server ... 192.168.1.2 & .1.3 and if I set the DNS on the client to those in either order, I still get a DNS error for the domain on the client end. I will post the error text in a second .... I have fiddled about with the DNS on the server, and the actual Domain Name MyRDP.ath.cx. Would you mind to elaborate on how you got yours to work bilbus? |

Re: Domain Error: PLEASE HELP!!!!!
When did the clients stop connecting to the domain? were they previously, then some change was made, that caused them to stop? What change? Did you try removing the clients from the domain, and then rejoining them, which would create new SID (security ID), which would need to be done if you created a new domain without changing the clients. If you created the domain MyRDP.ath.cx while the clients were connected to the previous domain name, they will have to be removed from the old and rejoined to the new, to create new SIDs and thus be able to connect.
