Unusual Roaming Profiles Problem

Hello all.

I've spent quite a while searching for a solution to my problem but it seems that what I've found so far has to do with mostly basic Roaming Profile problems. Also, it appears that Microsoft has gotten rid of all Technet forums having to do with anything before Vista or Server 2008.

The scenario I'm asking about is a Windows XP computer on a Windows Server 2003 domain (not SBS) with roaming profiles configured for about 30 users on 30 computers. The problem occurs to one maybe two people who login remotely using MS Server 2003 VPN then Remote Desktop to their computer. The complaint is that when she logs off remotely then comes into the office and logs in to her computer there are no files deleted but files that she had filed away in folders off her desktop are now back on their desktop in addition to the ones she'd filed away. I thought it might have something to do with insufficient space on the server for the profile but we've recently upgraded their server considerably so that now there are no space issues but these two people still get the problem.

Has anyone seen this before? Can anyone recommend a method to hunt down the solution because I'm sort of stumped. There's nothing in the Event Logs either on the server or on the computer itself. Does it seem like this would be something Microsoft would be able to or willing (server 2003/win XP) to try to fix? Not for free of course.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Joe

That seems like a good direction. I'll check and get back to you.

Re: Unusual Roaming Profiles Problem

Sorry it took so long to get back to you Prometheus_Fire. I've just had my technician quit on me so I'm super busy. I checked the settings and the roaming profiles folder had offline caching enabled for files and folders chosen by the user. I went ahead and turned it off so hopefully things will have changed though neither of the two people who the problem was happening to would know how to enable offline folders. Is there anything else you can think of that could be causing the problem? I thought that there might be a computer on the network with the same name so that she might be connecting to the other one on occasion without realizing it. I'd think the DHCP server would complain but who knows what someone might have manually done to the computer.
I'll see how things go and post back if there's any change.
Cheers.
