Only one user of many keeps disconnecting from Term Server.
Greetings,
I have a win 2000 terminal server that serves 5 remote users. 4 or them are working fine, the 5th user is continually knocked out of (disconnected) from the term server session. It is not a physical layer issue as he still has connectivity to all network resources (and can even ping the term server while this happens, with no change in ping times). I have been through several troubleshooting steps including double checking his session settings in AD and on the term server. He is set up and is a member of the same AD groups as the other 4 users that don't exhibit the problem. It is totally random and is does not coincide with any process or task. Usually happens 8-20 times a day. No specific times or periods are better or worse than others. One thing we have determined is that if I have him start a continuous ping to the term server before he RDP's into it and keep it running all day long, it will reduce the frequency of the issue by about 75-80 percent. Not a permanent solution but better than nothing His event viewer and the term server event viewer show absolutely nothing that coincides with his "knock off times". I am having him keep a log of date, time, what program he was running etc. to see if I can make some kind of correlation. Are there any perfmon stats I can track? Any help much appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: Only one user of many keeps disconnecting from Term Server.
have you tried to swap that terminal with another terminal which does not have the issue
if the problem follows the terminal then tere is an issue with the terminal's network card. swap the terminka if the problem stays in the same location with the working terminal then there is a cabling issue might be half duplex? or corrupted cable? |

Re: Only one user of many keeps disconnecting from Term Server.
It is not a physical layer issue (at least local to the server location).
I guess I didn't give enough info on my situation. This terminal server is one of 4 servers we have here on site. it is the only one that we allow to be used as a "Terminal server" IE we have 4 clients that are outside sales reps that use a remote access VPN client via our Cisco ASA 5500 to attach to our local network and then rdp to the terminal server. Any user that is local is functioning fine and does not get knocked off of the terminal session. 3 of the 4 clients that are remote, have no issues with the terminal server and perform pretty much the same functions as the 4th that is getting knocked off. It is NOT tied to the users login, as I have duplicated his environment the best I can and do not have any problems. (I set up a separate laptop with a direct line to our backup ISP (Comcast) which is the same ISP as my problem user, then I run the Cisco ASA VPN client, then I RDP to the term server and log in as him. I experience no issues. I believe the issue is in his laptop, but I have no other term server to test with, and he is 200 miles away and rarely comes in to the office. One thing that may be related, is that any time he (or anyone) logs in to the terms server (even locally from the console), 2 MrxSmb (Event ID 3034) errors are logged in the event log. Hopefully this additional info will help. Thanks. |
