After patching reboot issues.

Hello,

We are having few hundred servers(Windows 2003 Servers) in our environment. During each patching cycle few servers(3 to 5No) will hung while rebooting(after patching).
In event log we will not find any abnormalities, after hard reboot servers comes back normally. We will not find any valid information/log from system log, application & log files related patching.
How to troubleshoot this kind of issues? How find out root cause for the issues?

What apps are running on these servers, same brand server?

What makes those 5 the same?

Is it the same 5 each time?

3 are WSS, 1 exchange, 1 IIS. 3 are HP DL385, One HP Blade, One Virtual server.

No different date & time, same week.

No, it differs.

odd, if they were all, say exchange, i could see a issue.

So they just hang? do you auto reboot, or is this after a manaul reboot after patches are complete.
