Operating system re-installed, causes problems

A couple days ago, I got this c000021a, fatal system error blue screen message. that said the windows logon failed. I resolved to reinstall windows operating system. I no longer get the error, but now there are other problems with my computer.

First, the internet won't work. It did before I reinstalled windows, and the ethernet cable is connected. How do I get Windows to detect the connection so I can use the internet?

Second, my screen resolution is messed up. It's stuck at 640x480 and won't move. I've attempted to check adapter and monitor settings using the troubleshooting but some of the options they suggest aren't even in the display menu. The color is stuck at medium 16, but it used to be 32.

please help!

EDIT: Wrong forum, sorry

Re: Operating system re-installed, causes problems

and welcome to the Forum

Sounds like you need to load the mother board drivers. You should be able to find them on the manufacturers website.

Be sure tio install the Chipset driver first, then the video, network adaptor and any others you need ( look in Device Manager )

Re: Operating system re-installed, causes problems

I tried to install the drivers I got from Dell.com but they wouldn't work. The installation said that language files were missing.

Re: Operating system re-installed, causes problems

Dimension 8110. I use Windows XP. THe dell drivers didn't have 8110 or windows XP in the driver selections, so I used 8110 and windows 2000 instead.
The language my Comp uses is english.

Re: Operating system re-installed, causes problems

Instead of looking up the model, enter your Service tag number . . should be on a sticker on the tower

Some win 2000 drivers may work, but not all

Re: Operating system re-installed, causes problems

My screen is fixed and the Internet's back, thanks!
One thing though, my old files can't be accessed. They haven't been erased entirely, but whenever I go to try and access them, it says

"...file is not accesible. Access is denied."

How do I get to those files?
