I have an old gateway computer that was in an office that is all i know about it other thatn serial and model no,oh its old it is a beige on hehe. My ethernet wont work on it, my ISP peeps tell me that I need to refresh the driver, hmm not sure i even have ethernet surely i do. I at a total loss and not wanting to give up. I would like to get this computer up and running for my students w/ special needs, most adminstators at the school think it is a waste of time, but the kids w/ autism love it. So if i can get it online we will be blessed as will those how can help.

Re: ahhhg, ethernet driver needed
Hi Fuzzycat, all computers basically require and use ethernet, its what allows them to connect to networks and to the internet. It may not need a new driver it may be that it was set up with specific network settings for the work place it was originally used in. I would first try going start/control panel/ network connections. Right click on local area connection and choose properties then double click on Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and make sure both settings say obtain ip address automatically and obtain dns automatically. Then I would restart and connect to the network you are trying to connect to now and see how you go. Other wise to update the driver you need to find the device information which if you right click on my computer/properties/hardware/devicemanager/ethernet controller make a note of the details then do a search on a computer with internet connection download the driver and transfer it via usb or disk etc
