[SOLVED] Group policy IE prefs settings
Hello All, back again!
I have a user that is going to a website for training. When she goes to the site it redirects her to a page that pulls up Windows media player to display the video training. The message that comes across is: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred. The server might not be available. Verifiy that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct. She is on the network, however we have a group policy in place that handles all of the IE prefs for the users. When I sign on with my admin rights it works fine. I tried logging on as another user with her same permissions and get the same error. I have looked at the GPO and can not see anything that would be blocking this from playing. Am I missing something. Oh, we are running Norton Web Security as well. I have looked through this disgraceful piece of work and can not find the blocking source here either. Sorry about the length, trying to give as much detail as possibe. Thanks for any help, Bryan |

Re: Group policy IE prefs settings
A quick fix would be to just apply a new GPO to that user, just for the training.
There are so many ways to affect programs using GPO's it would be hard to track it down unless you created the GPO. If you did create the GPO and are familiar with the settings that are applied I would focus on IE & Windows media player settings. Be sure to check User and Computer settings in the GPO. Thanks for the reply! I have been banging my head on this and still no luck I may look to try the previously mentioned and create a new GPO for her and see if that works.
I logged onto my web security box and added the url to the allow group thinking that this and the policy changes would allow this video to play, NOT! I did make sure that I did a GPUPDATE on the pc before I tried it as well. Any other suggestions, I didn't create this GPO and am pretty green with the whole GPO thing too. It is a good learning experience though. Thanks for your help XtabbedoutX. |

Re: Group policy IE prefs settings
bwaldorf,
Have a read at this article from MS, It describes some of the areas that are controlled via a GPO. Also check out the links there as well. Let us know if you find anything. |
