Setting up a small business network using Win2003
hi there everyone,
Well im a complete newbie here and have been out of the technical side of networking for a very long time and have never used windows server before. Anyway, I run a small company and now need to set up a server to handle the following: - Internet Sharing and access (be able to restrict access to certain websites) - A file Server (we have documents that need to on a central file server...with access control..certain users can access certain files on the file server etc). - Access Control and Network Monitoring (we deal with sensitive information so I would like the ability to monitor outgoing information such as attachments, files, MSN chats, google chat, IRC...so as to prevent leakage of sensitive files). Ok thats the main goal of setting up the server. My current evironment is as follows: - 1 x PC (P4 2.4 Quad Core with 2 gigs RAM, Kaspersky Server 2003 Anti Virus, Windows Server 2003 SP2) ...to be used as the SERVER. - 5 x PC's (P4's, Win XP operating systems with the latest service packs installed)..to be used as the "slave" pc's - DSL router (ZyXel - IAD P2602) - 4 port - D-Link Network Switch - 8 port (spliting the DSL 4 port currently) - Brother MFC 7420 Printer - HP PSC 1315 Printer and Scanner (used for scanning only) The current setup is 1 direct DSL connection to the "SERVER" pc....and 1 connection to the Network Switch which is then split 5 ways to the other pc's. Since im a complete newbie here could someone assist me with setting up a server so that all slave pc's have to connect to the server pc to gain access to the internet, printer and file sharing as well as do all the other things mentioned in the "main goal of setting up a windows server" statement mentioned above. Your help will be greatly appreciated ..as it is it was a mission just installing win2003 server and getting all the drivers for the printers and other devices! :) thanks looking forward to your reply. Regards Nick |
