Replace Main External DNS Server
I have an External DNS server I need to replace, and I have serveral backup (secondary zones) External DNS servers. However, my Main External DNS server is old and needs to be replaced.
Does anyone know if there is a proper way to decommission the Main (primary) DNS server, and implement the new DNS server in it place ? I have the the new server ready for it's replacement, I just need to configure, and wonder if there is away to bring the Config over. I know when you add an additional DNS server as a Secondary Zone, you can copy it over. I didn't know if that method is true when you need to replace the main Primary Zone DNS server. I am in a Windows 2003 environment. thank you. |

Re: Replace Main External DNS Server
Hey,
To do this in the past I created a new secondary zone in the forward lookup zones and added the current primary DNS servers IP in the address box. Then create a new secondary zone in the reverse lookup zones entering the first three octets in the network ID and then again add the IP address of the current primary DNS server. |
