35 gigs missing
Recently, my computer has been getting extremely tight on space. Even after i would remove some larger programs that i know longer used, the space would get eaten right back up, but the thing is, i don't know what's using it. I've been looking through all my files in my C: drive (which is only 67.6 gigs big itself), and found that my WINDOWS folder is 42.6gb large, but when i got into it, showing all the hidden files and everything, highlighting and looking at the properties of them, I'm only getting 5 gigs worth of space. So my question is, what is the other 37.6 gigs being used for?

Re: 35 gigs missing
have you emptied the rubbish bin
do a disk cleanup defrag if the computer is running ok,turn off the system restore and then turn it back on again then check how much space you have

Re: 35 gigs missing
You're probably not listing all the files if you're only seeing only a fraction. Go to control panel, folder options, and check 'show hidden files and folders' and uncheck 'hide protected operating system files'.
Then do a search: click start, search, for files and folders, on your C: drive, and expand the size tab, and force it to only list files at least 20,000 KB. When you're done searching, click on the size bar at the top to list the files by size. You should get a lowdown on what's eating up your hard disk space. P.S: You're posting in the Windows NT/2000/2003 Server section. but your OS on your profile says XP. If you're using XP to search, click on the advanced tab, and include system folders, and hidden files and folders. Last edited by blah789; 09-07-2008 at 09:29 PM. |
