Windows 2003 server hangs after every reboot

Hi All,

We have a Windows 2003 server ( Model: HP Proliant DL385 ) running SQL
Server 2000, in which we always experience issues. The issue is that
Windows Server 2003 hangs after every reboot. Sometimes, it has also
bluescreened and has created a memory dump. First time, when it
bluescreened, the memory dump points to cpqteam.sys and the second
time it pointed to afd.sys. On speaking to HP, they asked us to update
the Proliant support pack and NCU, but that didn't helped for a longer
period. The Server will come to normal after 8 successive reboots. The
server also throws the event viewer with the following log such as
Browser error, during hang.

Model is HP Proliant DL385 G2, 4Gb RAM, 2.Ghz AMD Opteron processor, Windows 2003 server standard edition R2 SP2, PSP 8.10.

Troubleshooting done by us so far:

1) Network teaming uninstalled and re-installed
2) Network card drivers uninstalled and re-installed from device
manager.
3) HP PSP and NCU updated to new version
4) HP has replaced the motherboard too , but of no use.

Hence, I am posting my issue to all fellow members and kindly request
them to share their thoughts, If anyone would have experienced similar
issue in the past.

NOTE: we have the DNS and WINS Settings pointing to correct DNS and
WINS Servers.

Could you be more specific at which point the server hangs upon boot.

A screen shot would be most beneficial.

Re: Windows 2003 server hangs after every reboot

There is no specific instance. Whenever you re-boot the server, the server hangs and it will go off the network. We will be unable to access the server through ILO or mstsc, when it hangs. Only way to bring the server online is to hard boot the server. Sometimes, we need to dissolve the teaming and re-team it to bring the server online. There will be no error logs in the system or ILO during this hang.
