Hey Guys,

new to the forums so not relly sure if this is the correct place to post.

So i got a Windows 2k3 server running DNS IIS etc, n i bought a domain.

What i want to be abled use like pop.mydomain.co.uk and smtp.mydomain.co.uk,

How would i go about doing this, i was thinking of changing name servers to my server IP so that requests go to the server in order to resolve things etc

I'm new to the all this so i appreciate your help and patience

Re: Domain Setup

Hello and welcome to TSF...
What you need is Web Server...
But I do not believe we can help you in few posts...
What do you need is to hire an system administrator and watch how does he setting up Web Server, DNS zones etc...
later you can do it by yourself...
Setting up Web Server is a large scope of setting things to work together and you need to do this right on spot...

Maybe I am wrong, if anyone here can help you through posts it would be great...
But saying that you have Server 2003 with DNS and DHCP on it + Active Directore is insufficient...

Re: Domain Setup

First step...
1) Register the domain name with a company that also alows u to register nameservers. Nameservers are top level and mustbe registered by the company which registered ur server.

2)If u can register NSs or nameservers, then register two of them..... NS1 and NS2, i doubt u have two servers so point both of the nameservers two the ip of ur server.

3) Go into your domain control panel and push the domain to the 2new NS you have setup.

4) On YOUR server create a new host for the domain.

Once you have done this you have completed the basic part of making it so ppl on the internet can see it. (YOU ARE NOT DONE BY A LONG SHOT)

I will agree much past what i just said gets into knowing domain zones and actually knowing what you are doing. I would suggest hiring someone. Or if u catch me at the right time I may be able to helpy you via VNC or CrossLoop......

Re: Domain Setup

Well to be honest this isnt a company or anything just indivisual, i just wanna learn how to do it, its for the experince,

The nameservers at the moment are the nameservers of the the registrat ( 123-reg)

I have made an A record to point to the server, sp at the moment i can ping the server using the DNS name and it access my server, its mainly the mail part, do i se the MX records up on the 123 reg control panel or on the server

Thanks
