Recover single files from backup?
We currently use ntbackup for full backups of our file server. However, sometimes our users asks us to recover single files, which is quite difficult considering our method of backup.
Is there a backup software for Windows Server 2003 that allows for single file recovery? Thanks! |

Re: Recover single files from backup?
I have BackupExec installed for several clients and it works well like that. All the installations I have deployed are running tape libraries, so recovery is a breeze. I go to the recovery portion of the program, browse through the backup dates and find the file I need and then restore it. You also get the option to restore it to its original location or you can restore it to a different directory. The benefit of running the library is that the software knows what tape it needs to use and loads it automatically, allowing for remote support for file recoveries.

Re: Recover single files from backup?
Isn't BackupExec quite expensive? We are a non-profit so I don't think we can afford software like that......although I'd like to buy it. Is there anything similar but cheaper?
Also, we do our backups to an external hard drive. Thanks! |

Re: Recover single files from backup?
I use Backup4all at a lot of customers, and it will restore single files.
It is certainly cost effective. I believe there is a 30 day trial, so you could give it a go and see how it works for you. Go for the Professional version. see www.backup4all.com |
