Intra-Network File Server
Alrighty, here's the situation.
We have a shiny new Dell server with Windows Server 2003 R2 installed. our workstations are 3-yr old Win XP Home boxes. I've installed the File server module/function onto the server and loaded all the files onto it. Now, I've been trying to map the 3 drives onto the xp boxes, pointing to 3 shared folders on the server... but I'm running into some problems. 1) it asks for username/password authentication. I typed in the admin username and password for the server and it works. However, when I go to the next computer and do that, it looks like the last computer loses the drive. 2) So... I made a username for each computer via the AD module (No, since they're home, they're not on AD... but it was worth a shot anyway...) So now, each computer maps a drive... but it can only access one at a time... it says that "there are more than one user or a user is logged on more than once..." in an error message. 3)I changed the computer's name under "My computer>properties>computer name" and "added a new computer" in the AD window... but still no... Basically, my question is: What setup should I be using for the whole thing? I'll redo them all (unless you suggest I install linux :-p), etc... I've just run out of ideas. |

Re: Intra-Network File Server
Try setting the permissions to allow EVERYONE full control. You shouldn't have to authenticate that way when connecting to the share.
