Terminal Services on Server 2003 problem

Guys, help needed here...

I have a terminal server running on windows server 2003 standard edition SP2.

everything is running fine... only with this problem. my users cant use skype when they log on as terminal users. only administrator users can use this skype program. other programs such as microsoft office, MYOB and msn is running fine.

any idea how to solve my problem here? and also, how to control the users what they can see and what they cant see on the start menu and control their program usage rights.

Re: Terminal Services on Server 2003 problem

Skype is configuring more than a standard user is allowed to access, I don't know what, I don't use though TS, but it is more than likely trying to install something into the profile, or use something that admin only has rights to. Of course you know that by the error message.

As a work around. I would add the user to the administrators group. Setup skype for them. Then remove them and see if it works when you log back in. If it is trying to change aspects that only admins have privy to, then you could see if Power Users have access to do it.

Once setup though, you may not have to have admin to run the program.

Re: Terminal Services on Server 2003 problem

Usually when programs dont run under other user accounts its a permission issue with files or registry keys.... i would as a test assign the user read and write permissions to the skype installation directory and also try giving more permissions to the registry keys where skype is installed. I dont use skype but i have run into this issue many times and its usually with a folder or registry key the user does not have read or write access too...

To answer you second question you will have to setup group policies to control access to what users can and can not see. Group Policies is a huge subject if you need some assistance PM Me
