Remote Desktop Connection Won't Work
I'm a newbie, so please bear with me. I'm running a server with Windows Server 2003 on it. Some people have been saying that they cannot connect to the server via Remote Desktop from home. If the problem is not on the user's side, what could it be on mine?
Thanks! |

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Won't Work
Are you sure that it's not on their side? What have you don't to test it? What are the users connecting to the server for?

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Won't Work
Oh, yeah, forgot an important detail. The problem started when Comcast replaced out router today. I had to set it all back up, and I think I got it all. Everything works as it should except this. Some users use RDC to log onto the server and work with Quickbooks files for the company I do IT work for. I was originally hired for hardware upgrade and repair, servers are new for me.

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Won't Work
Did the IP address change? My guess is either the IP has changed with the new router and your remote users are using old IP address, or your new router is not setup to forward RDP port to your server.....like your old router did.

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Won't Work
If your perimeter device, router/modem/firewall, does port blocking then yes. You need to setup port 3389 forwarding.

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Won't Work
Today the server had completely different DNS, although the router was giving it the same as before. The server is set to have a fixed primary and alternate DNS, but somehow thinks it was told to change it. Any ideas?
Also, I set up port forwarding on the router, but RDC still does not want to connect. |
