Domain user-Duplicate PC name in the network

Hi Guyes,
I am using win 2003 sever with some clients(win XP) PC as domain user. So, every user's name exist in the active directory & all PC's are stored in separate list.

But, I've formatted 1 PC ("abc") & install XP professional & want to make domain user. But, I was getting an error that, "abc" alredy exist in the network. So, I delete "abc" from the server & also the user from active directory.

But, still I m getting same error. So, is "abc" stored anywhere elase, that I need to delete?

Please help...

Re: Domain user-Duplicate PC name in the network

You could try deleting the computer from the DNS record, and also the DHCP address leases.

Re: Domain user-Duplicate PC name in the network

Hi Matt,
Actually I've deleted that PC from the container of Active Directory. But, that PC was not in the DNS List & how can I found the "DHCP address leases"?
Is there any registry file where server store all the computer names?

Hey akaki,

Matt was correct. You just go and see the DNS entries.
