Remote desktop connection to domian users
Hello, I'm running a 2003 small business server with about 10 clients attached running xp pro. I can log in remotely to the server to do updates. but I want to be able to log into the client machines via "Remote desktop connection" but whenever I try I get a "local policies don't allow". How can I enable it so I can log on to a users machine?

Re: Remote desktop connection to domian users
You need to edit the Group Policy for the Domain to allow RDC. Also when logging in use the Domain Administrator account and it should override local policy anyway.

Re: Remote desktop connection to domian users
Rasb,
Log in to SBS server as Administrator and bring up the Server Management (comes up by default). Make sure you've created a Domain Computer account for all the XP PCs on your Domain. Open up the Computers, right click on each computer, click Manage Computer, Go to "System Tools", "Local Users and Groups", open up Groups, open up the "Remote Desktop Users" group, click the "ADD" button, then in the box, type: DOMAIN NAME\Username Where domain name is the name of your domain and username is the full domain user name. Click "Check Names" button and verify that the name is found then "ADD" this user. Also, from the Server Management, go into Users, and check the remote access settings for the domain user you've added. - John |

Re: Remote desktop connection to domian users
Sorry everyone for being away. I did set a Group Policy for the Domain to allow RDC. I haven't used GPO much so it took a while but I did it and it works. I checked it on the computers in the system and they're all checked off and disabled so that you can't uncheck it. The path for it was:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components/Terminal services > Allow users to connect remotely using terminal services Thanks everyone for there input! Rasb |

Re: Remote desktop connection to domian users
Group Policy is VERY powerful. Take a look around and be careful what you change but it can be your best friend when it comes to domain management.
Glad to hear it worked. |
