Managed Desktop

I work at A primary school and we currently have Client - Server Network using Active Directory (WinXP - Win2003). I want to know how I can display shortcuts in the start menu and desktop that only apply for the user role. For example I want teachers to gain access to different teaching resource software but when a student logs in I don't want the shortcuts to be displayed and them not to be able to access it. I suppose very similar to RM CC3. I have installed all the software via GPO. I don't really want to use any third party software unless needed. each workstation can have different software.

If you are doing it on a workstation by workstation basis anyway the easiest thing to do would be to set the file permissions on the folders for the programs you do not want the students to see so that the students group is denied all rights. They then won't see it but the teachers will. You could also do this by group policy

How would I do it by GPO? I have 90 Workstations to manage, so it would take awhile to do it by hand.

Set up the permissions for the all users start menu folder for the program groups you want to ristrict to deny the little monsters (sorry I mean angels) any rights to view / execute etc.
