Windows Active Directory
If i set up an Active Directory solution on Windows Server 2003 and XP pro machines with ADSL internet connection, then do i need to configure the DHCP server running on Win 2003 to set default gateway on client computers to that of the Domain controller or the ADSL modem?
If i plan to have VPN access to my server, is it necessary to have two NICs? My network is on a private IP addressing scheme and i plan to implement NAT to the public IP address of the internet connection. Please advice |

Re: Windows Active Directory
The best way to assign IP's is to set up DHCP on the server you are running DNS from.
The Client computers need to point all address to the server. You do not need two NIC's to have VPN. Depending on the way you are going to run VPN. The best way to run VPN is from a firewall inbetween the ISP and the Server. |

Re: Windows Active Directory
I will be running DNS from the same server i wish to run DHCP on. I've got only one server. Do the client computer need to have their default gateway to that of the Domain controller running DNS and DHCP?
I will have an ADSL modem too. Should i connect the ADSL modem on the same private network addressing scheme? Will the client computers be able to access the internet? I plan to run an ISA server on the domain controller too. When i run RRAS to confiture VPN the wizard directs me to have atleast two interfaces. |

Re: Windows Active Directory
If the client computers have their default gateway as the domain controller and not the ADSL modem how will they access the Internet? Should the domain controller have its default gateway to the IP of the ADSL modem to forward frames on client computers' behalf?

Re: Windows Active Directory
All client IP settings need to point to the Server that hosts DNS, DHCP.
You need to set DNS to forward all IP internet traffic to the outside. |
