Can't connect XP to WS2003 (silly question from a student)
Hello, would just like to thankyou for this website, it has proven most helpful to me recently.
My issue: Before I started my MCE course (70-290) I was "tinkering" with LAN. I managed to set up 3 of my computers with shared locations etc in which I could transfer documents to the main computer for printing. This all seemed to work fine, but every now and then I would find that the shared locations on the computers would dissapear from my Network Places and I wouldn't have access to those locations. Recently I have started the 70-290 course and installed WS2003 on a spare computer for the purpose of training, however I cannot seem to be able to find the other computers on my network to connect with - I am on chapter 2, remote desktop - and this is where I realised I'm having issues. I am using a WIFI connection on my laptop, and ethernet on the Server. I cannot seem to, as yet, find any advice in the book, and have also not found any mention to connecting with other computers in a network (which I assumed would be the first page!) so I'm a little lost. Laptop: Windows XP Tablet SP2, onboard wifi card Pentium M1.6ghz, 512mb Ram Server: WS2003 out-of-box (no updates) over a Router P4 2.0ghz, 256mb Ram Could anyone advise? Regards, Jason |

Re: Can't connect XP to WS2003 (silly question from a student)
Remote desktop has to be enabled on client PC's in order to RDC to them from a server or another PC. Also, you will need to have a user that you are trying to log into the RDC'ed PC with added to the RD users group so that they have the access permissions to connect via RDC to the client PC.
Use Google for your questions and then post if you cannot figure it out. Google is much quicker than waiting on a reply through a forum. Plus, you will learn more figuring it out on your own... Google search result: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...ws-XP-Pro.html |
