Exchange and emails
I'm just curious. I have Exchange server (have MSDN).
I also have a WS2003 OS. im actually thinking about buying a dedicated hosting package and installing my software on it. since i am not that great about creating/managing a server i just want some advise. lets say I want to create a mailbox for a domain I have. how would I do this in WS2003? Can I use my outlook email client to download/send emails through that inbox? Exchange server - what will this do for me really? Is it beneficial? I mean sure, you can share calanders, have a GAL, keep email in sync with a mobile device...but does it also provide things like creating mailboxes ? Thanks |

Re: Exchange and emails
Hi & Welcome to TSF.
![]() Let me try to answer your questions in order. Are you a developer? MSDN is most often reserved for Developers, Schools, and such. Exchange lets you manipulate all aspects of a mail server. Depending on what your MSDN allows you will need a CAL for each client that is Served from the server. An Exchange server is a really powerful tool if you are properly trained how to use it. I believe the MS Press book for this is several hundred pages in length. I hope this has helped you some. Please phrase your question with more specificity if you require more answers in setting this up. |

Re: Exchange and emails
Thanks, much appreciated. Yes I am a developer, and a C# MVP. I also used to work for Microsoft and yes ashamed to ask what exchange is, however I have no connection with Exchange and only do pure dev stuff! haha :)
Question I do have though, I will be the only client but will have multiple email addresses over 2 domains (organisation really) - take it I need a CAL for each email address? Remember, it will only be ME accessing those accounts |
