[SOLVED] Problems with Windows Server 2003

Hi i've just set up a home server with Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition and im having a few problems.

I can't access the internet on my server i get "Windows internet explorer's enhanced security configuration is currently enabled ....."
How do i turn that off so i can access the web? I have tried adding websites to the trusted zone as it instructed me to but it still won't let me and really i just want it turned off.

Secondly i want to access my files on my server on my mac and if i open Finder (my computer) i can see my server and when i click on it to try get to files it says connection failed. If someone could tell me how to set it so certain files are shared and so i can acess them then that would be brilliant. Thank you in advance for your help,

Jay

Check out this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815141 for answers on Server Internet Security.

Try to manually connect to the server via it's ip address and see if you can make a connection that way.

Re: Problems with Windows Server 2003

Thanks for the reply.
When i try to connect though my IP it still fails. When i click on "mainserver" in finder under shared, It doesn't even display the files it just says connecting.... and then it says connection failed it that helps.

Re: Problems with Windows Server 2003

Under System Preferences, under I believe networking there is a setting for Windows connections. Don't quote me it has been awhile since I messed with my MAC and Windows PCs together.

Re: Problems with Windows Server 2003

would that be system preferences > Network? had a look and i can't see it. im using leopard by the way. I know at work i can get my files off the server there without changing any setting but im not sure if thats off the mac server.
I swear it's possiable to access my server off my mac, and can i do it though safari f i type in my IP (thats what i did when you said connect to your IP) it just took me to my router settings page. Am i doing something wrong (well i must be) or is it just my mac?

Re: Problems with Windows Server 2003

It is very possible one of the perks they had w/ leopard was the ease of sharing files across a multi platform network.

Let me do some looking on this issue.

Re: Problems with Windows Server 2003

You either need a router or firewall that can handle VPN or a frre service such as logmein.com I use logmein for my out of town people. I use a VPN for netowork support.
It's all about preference.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Windows Server 2003

If you are serious about security I would get a hardware firewall. They provide the best security for you network. I personally use a Watchguard Firewall which also comes with VPN software.
