I want to integrate a 2003 box and I have two question. I’ll explain a few things first.
I have a new Windows Server 2003 machine that is for training (to have something to use while reading up on Server technology). I bought a public IP address to use for this server from my ISP. I bought/registered a domain name from GoDaddy. We have an existing Windows 2000 server that is the domain, DNS, DHCP server and everything else—it is the only server on a little file/print sharing domain. The domain is not registered, and it has a kind of odd name…”lds2.kac.” It has a non routeable IP address. It gets to the internet via a public IP address in the DSL modem. Can I wipe the new 2003 box and re-install the op sys and make this box the domain controller (and everything else needed) for a new domain that is in the same forest as the existing 2000 domain? If yes, should I name the new domain with the domain name I registered? Or just call it MyNewDomain.local? |
